Elena Corbu is a self-taught artist and photographer whose work explores the fragility of the body, memory, and the human connection to nature through an intuitive and sensory-driven artistic practice. Her concept is rooted in the idea that images emerge from within—shaped by personal and collective memory, cultural inheritance, and the body’s instinctual responses. By engaging with photography as a medium of introspection, she creates a visual language where presence and absence, self and environment, are in continuous dialogue.

At the core of her artistic vision is the notion that memory is not static but a fluid, living entity—constantly rewritten through experience. In her images, memory does not manifest literally but rather through textures, contours, and voids, evoking what is felt rather than what is seen. The body becomes a landscape of emotion and time, marked by both visible and invisible traces.

In a contemporary context where the body is often stylized, filtered, or reduced to aesthetic performance, Elena’s artistic practice seeks to reclaim its authenticity and vulnerability. Her black-and-white photography distills reality to its essence, using light and shadow as the primary elements of composition. By stripping away excess, she creates spaces that invite contemplation, slowing down the gaze in a world saturated with instant imagery.

Her work does not offer conclusions but rather constructs conceptual spaces for reflection—meeting points between past and future, perception and emotion, self and transformation. Influenced by her upbringing between rural and urban spaces, Elena’s artistic practice embraces impermanence, tactility, and introspection as essential elements of her visual research.

Elena has exhibited in solo and group shows, her work has been published in international media, and she has collaborated with artists from various disciplines. She currently lives and works between rural Romania and Bucharest, balancing her independent artistic projects with commissions that align with her conceptual vision.
